At Silicon Valley Athletics, we work with many clients whose primary goals include weight loss. Our coaches have a deep understanding of the biological mechanisms behind weight loss and are well equipped to support you in reaching your goals. When a client’s primary goal is weight loss, our coaches focus heavily on lifestyle modification, sustainability, and preservation of lean tissue. At Silicon Valley Athletics, we understand the challenges associated with losing weight and have helped clients of all ages and backgrounds navigate these challenges to achieve sustainable weight loss.
Workouts on Your Schedule
At Silicon Valley Athletics, we believe that fitness is meant to enhance your life, not burden it. If weight loss is going to be sustainable, fitness must become a lifelong endeavor. Therefore, our coaches work with you to design a training program that is not only effective but also enjoyable and sustainable.
We offer our clients two training packages options depending on their prior experience in the gym. Both packages emphasize training with consistency and include recommendations around weekly cardio targets. Workout completion, output and progres are tracked through our mobile app which allows the client, coach and third party registered dietician (when applicable) to work in concert to measure progress and make adjustments as necessary.
For those clients who may be at the start of their weight loss journey, we offer a beginner (Level 1) package. Our Level 1 clients are those who are fairly new to cardiovascular and/or resistance training. These clients are learning how to use gym equipment and require close supervision to ensure proper movement execution. For our Level 1 clients, our weight loss coaches devise a training program for each in-person session and keep track of the sets, repetitions, and weights used during each session in an app (TrueCoach) which all clients have access to. This allows for the coach to help the client acclimate to the challenges of the programmed workouts and set the stage for more advanced weight loss training programs to come. The coach and the client can review all of the work that has been done during each client’s visit with the mobile app.
Our Level Two Package is best suited for more experienced clients and includes a combination of both in-person training and remote programming. These clients are more autonomous in the gym but need structure, accountability, or the expertise of a coach to guide their weight loss pursuits. These clients typically train with us in-person once or twice weekly but complete much of their training off-site. Our weight loss coaches devise a comprehensive training plan based on the number of days per week a client is able to train (minimum of three days per week for Level Two clients) and the training equipment a client has access to. Remote workouts are delivered through an app (TrueCoach) and include a suggested warm-up and then the work for the day including sets, reps, duration, and video demonstration of each movement. When completing workouts remotely, the client will enter the results of their workouts in the app. Clients also have the opportunity to upload videos of themselves training, ask questions, and receive remote feedback from the trainer.
In both packages, our trainers work with the client to implement an effective and thoughtful weight loss program. Our goal is to create a routine that is easy to understand and sustainable so that fitness becomes an enjoyable and lifelong pursuit.
Tracking Your Progress
Tracking your workouts is an integral component of what we do at Silicon Valley Athletics. We keep a detailed log of every workout you complete in a mobile app including the number of sets, repetitions, tempo, and weights used for each movement as well as duration and intensity of cardiovascular exercise. Additionally, your coach will track objective strength and performance metrics for compound lifts and aerobic work. This consistent monitoring helps us capture average weekly energy expenditure and ensures continued progress.
All of our packages include a BodySpec DEXA scan. The DEXA scan is a simple, ten minute body fat test that provides a highly accurate and comprehensive body composition breakdown including fat tissue mass, muscle mass and bone density. We utilize the results of your DEXA scan to track changes in body composition over time. When weight loss is the goal, we want to make every effort to ensure we are preserving lean tissue (muscle). The DEXA scan allows us to ensure that.
The DEXA scan provides a few additional windows of insight into your health including your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT) volume, both of which can be impacted by weight loss. Your RMR reflects the amount of energy (measured in calories) that your body requires to carry out its basic functions while at rest. These basic functions include breathing, circulation, cell production and maintenance, and other essential bodily processes. Determining your RMR can be helpful for determining your daily caloric needs for weight loss. Additionally, increasing your RMR can be beneficial for weight loss, as it means the body is burning more calories at rest. VAT is a type of fat that accumulates deep within the abdominal cavity and surrounds vital organs such as the liver, pancreas, and intestines. High VAT mass is associated with a higher risk of metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Bringing this number down is a top priority when developing your training program.
